Selling the shared study guide

You are a co-author of a study guide, and you are in the student lounge with two other co-authors who disagree.

In a student lounge, Alvaro and Amabel stand with you after the final exam review. You three wrote the study guide together over a semester. Alvaro wants to sell it to the wider class for a small fee, while Amabel disagrees. Nobody has been asked about money before.

The scene

Alvaro: Everyone asks for the guide. Let's charge five dollars for months' work.

Amabel: We built it together for free, Alvaro. We never discussed money.

Alvaro: Hours of careful work should count for something, Amabel. Why bother?

Amabel: Then let's decide together, but I won't back this. You're the tiebreaker.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do in this situation, and why?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you shared work or credit with others and had to deal with a disagreement about it. What did you do?
