Scene to read · Motivation, Ethics

Archive closed until Monday

You are training online with two close friends to become volunteer city tour guides.

At Chiyo's kitchen table, two laptops open, you sit with close friends Chiyo and Joanne; the three of you must finish an online tour-guide course as a team to lead walks this spring. Each of your three missing essays needs a visit to the city archive, which is closed until Monday, and Sunday's deadline has no extensions. Chiyo bought finished essays; Joanne has already used hers.

The scene

Chiyo: Nobody reads these. The software checks the length and submits. Take my three.

Joanne: This could be my last spring able to walk those hills.

Chiyo: You can still visit the archive in June and learn it properly.

Joanne: Miss Sunday and none of us guides this year. Your call.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do about the essays, and what would you say to Chiyo and Joanne?
  2. 2Describe a time you chose the harder way of doing something when a shortcut was available. Why?
