Sixty percent of an oven

You are a volunteer helper on a shared courtyard oven project, and Tamsin and Tarek, who lead it, ask your view.

In the courtyard of an apartment block, beside a hand-painted fundraising poster, neighbors Tamsin and Tarek lead the shared outdoor oven project. The fund has stalled at sixty percent. A smaller oven could be built this season with the money in hand. They have asked you, as a volunteer, to help decide.

The scene

Tamsin: We could build the small oven this season. People would see progress.

Tarek: But nobody dreamed of the small one. We might regret settling.

Tamsin: Fewer neighbors attend meetings each month. Momentum matters, and we're worn out.

Tarek: Fair enough. You've been here since the start. What would you do?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do or say to Tamsin and Tarek, and why?
  2. 2How do you decide when to adjust a goal you care about and when to hold out for the original?
