Written scenario · Motivation, Resilience

Eleven minutes in two seasons

You have been the substitute on an adult recreational soccer team for two seasons.

In two seasons you have played eleven minutes. The team voted long ago that minutes go to whoever performs best in practice, a rule meant to stop favoritism, and you have never quite made the cut. Ebony, the coach, tells you your attitude holds the team together and asks you to sign up for a third season; she is honest that she cannot promise you more time on the field. You love this group, but you joined to play, and a lower-level club across town has open spots. Registration closes Friday.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Ebony, and what would you decide?
  2. 2How do you decide when to keep working at something and when to put your effort elsewhere?

What raters look for

Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
Resilience
