The chart on the wall
You started a family fitness challenge and now have to decide how it continues, with your parents Ivetta and Ivo watching.
In your parents' living room, a wall chart tracks everyone's weekly workouts. You launched the eight-week challenge, and several cousins are still logging theirs. Your mother, Ivetta, is far ahead. Your father, Ivo, is well behind in week five.
The scene
Ivetta: I'm finally hitting my stride; the chart keeps me honest. Let's continue.
Ivo: I'm last every week, and it's not fun. Take the chart down.
Ivetta: The cousins still post their numbers. Stopping would let them down.
Ivo: Change the rules or count me out. You decide. It's your challenge.
The two questions
- 1What would you decide about the challenge, and what would you say to your parents?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to keep yourself or others motivated toward a goal that was no longer working for everyone. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
