Not here for burpees

You play on an adult volleyball team in a weeknight recreational league.

Your team rents a court for one hour on Wednesday nights, and two players have pulled muscles this season. After practice, Emilio proposes spending the first twenty minutes of each session on fitness drills that he would lead. Bradley objects, and they both turn to you.

The scene

Emilio: Twenty minutes of conditioning and nobody limps home. I'll run it myself.

Bradley: That's a third of our hour. I came here to play, not do burpees.

Emilio: You'd play better, and longer. Isn't getting better part of the fun?

Bradley: For you, maybe. So what's this team actually for?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Emilio and Bradley?
  2. 2Describe a time people in a group you belonged to wanted different things from it. What did you do?
