Scene to read · Motivation, Resilience
If you both go
You are one of three unpaid volunteers who screen the posts on an online support forum for family caregivers.
After weeks of hostile messages aimed at the three of you, you meet the other two, Bao and Lucia, in a co-working lounge. Bao trained you and covered all your shifts for a month last year when you were unwell.
The scene
Bao: I'm done after tonight. I can't read one more message like those.
Lucia: I understand. But I can't run it alone, and two thousand people use it.
Bao: You look worse than I do. Come with me. I'd feel better knowing you're out.
Lucia: If you both leave, it closes Friday. Please stay.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and what would you say to Bao and Lucia?
- 2Describe a time you had to decide whether to keep going with something that was wearing you down. What did you decide, and why?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
