Scene to read · Motivation, Resilience
Saturday clay, Tuesday classes
You are a friend of Xenia and Yannick, and Yannick asked you to come along this morning.
Sunday morning in a bookshop café. Xenia, 38, and Yannick, 51, have shared a weekly pottery class for years. Yannick has been accepted into a part-time certificate whose class meets at the same time, and has asked you to sit in while they talk.
The scene
Yannick: The certificate meets Sundays, so I'd drop pottery. I really want this.
Xenia: Pottery's our one fixed time. It feels like you're halfway out.
Yannick: I'm not leaving you. Staying for us could make me resent it.
Xenia: Then tell me honestly what you'd do if you were me.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Xenia and Yannick, and what would you encourage them to do?
- 2Describe a time you had to choose between a personal goal and a routine or commitment you shared with others. How did you decide?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
