We shook on it
You jog every week with two close friends.
A year ago you, Bernardo and Olivia agreed to each save two hundred dollars a month for a big trip together next spring. Stretching after today's run, Bernardo has just said he wants out.
The scene
Bernardo: I want out of the trip fund. I'm twenty-two, broke, and spring's forever away.
Olivia: I turned down my sister's cruise for this. We shook on it.
Bernardo: I'd rather spend on things now. Concerts, dinners, you two included.
Olivia: Then it's not a pact, is it? Help us out here. What do we do?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Bernardo and Olivia?
- 2Tell us about a time you committed to a long-term goal with others and someone's commitment changed. What happened?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
