Written scenario · Motivation, Equity
Two offers, one Friday
You have just finished your training and hold two job offers.
One is with a small legal-aid nonprofit doing work you believe in, at a salary that barely covers your own rent. The other is a contracts job you expect to find dull, paying nearly twice as much. Your father can no longer work, and for three years your older sister Carmen has covered his rent and care on her own and fallen behind on her own bills. She has not asked you for anything and says you should take the job you want. Both employers need an answer by Friday.
The two questions
- 1Which offer would you take, and how would you explain your choice to Carmen?
- 2How should a person weigh what they owe their family against the work they feel called to do?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
