Scene to read · Motivation, Collaboration
Nine hundred pages, one third
You are the volunteer who started a digital archive of old school yearbooks and are running low on energy.
In the back room of a school office, a flatbed scanner sits among stacks of old yearbooks. You started this project, and you are about a third of the way through 900 pages. Fellow volunteers Rosalind and Rosamund are helping, and nobody expects it to be finished soon.
The scene
Rosalind: We could scan the rest at low quality, finishing by spring.
Rosamund: Low quality means faded faces and unreadable names. Nobody can use that.
Rosalind: A finished archive beats perfection that stalls. We're all tired, honestly.
Rosamund: Then it's your project. What pace are we setting from here?
The two questions
- 1What pace would you set for the rest of the project, and what would you say to Rosalind and Rosamund?
- 2Tell us about a time you kept working on a long task after your energy had faded. What helped you continue?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
