Counting regulars without asking
You are the session coordinator for a community recreation group and must decide how attendance gets recorded.
In a community hall before an evening session, Deacon, a longtime regular, talks with Delphine, a volunteer. The optional check-in sheet is used only to plan future sessions, not for safety. Deacon wants regulars counted automatically, while Delphine worries that would overstate interest.
The scene
Deacon: Regulars always show up. Can't you count us without signing in?
Delphine: Counting people who didn't sign makes attendance look steadier than reality.
Deacon: Signing feels like homework; newcomers see a line and walk past.
Delphine: Planning needs real numbers; guesses already cost one session. Your decision?
The two questions
- 1What would you decide about the check-in sheet, and how would you explain it to Deacon and Delphine?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to keep a routine that others found inconvenient, or change one. How did you handle it?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
