Scene to read · Professionalism, Self-awareness
Take some home
You work the reception desk at a small medical practice.
Staff may take supplies that are about to expire, and whatever is left on Friday is boxed up for a street outreach van. In the break room, Nancy, who has worked part-time at the practice for nineteen years, is filling her backpack from the cupboard when Nonoy, the office manager, walks in.
The scene
Nancy: Bandages, sunscreen, hand cream, all expiring. Here, take some home.
Nonoy: That's most of the shelf, Nancy. The outreach box will be light Friday.
Nancy: It's allowed, I checked. Nineteen years here on part-time pay, I'll take the perk.
Nonoy: Allowed, sure. So, are you filling your pockets too?
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and what would you say to Nancy and Nonoy?
- 2Tell us about a time you were offered something you were allowed to take but were not sure you should. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
