Scene to read · Professionalism, Communication
Gone by three
You were promoted to assistant manager of an apartment complex a month ago.
Your supervisor, Gauri, has slipped out by three most days this month without saying why, and her unsigned work orders have been landing on your desk. Only she can sign off on repairs over two hundred dollars. As she reaches for her bag again today, a resident, Keiko, walks up to the leasing office counter.
The scene
Keiko: Three weeks my dishwasher's leaked, and you're never here to approve the repair.
Gauri: I'm here every morning. My assistant has your file and can explain.
Keiko: I've stopped by four afternoons. So please, explain. What's the holdup?
Gauri: Sorry, I really have to run. Can you take this one for me?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Keiko, and what would you do afterward?
- 2Describe a time you were expected to cover for someone with authority over you. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
