The last seat at four

You are a relative organizing the reunion seating chart, with final say on where everyone sits.

On the venue's porch, your uncle Jairo, 41, and aunt Jacinto, 28, who are siblings, review your chart. Table four's last seat is reserved for Jacinto; Jairo is assigned to table two. Jacinto privately told you that a relative at table two repeatedly presses her about an unresolved family loan, and requested distance. Swapping their seats would accommodate Jairo but break that confidence-based arrangement; other changes would separate guests who requested sitting together.

The scene

Jairo: Could I take that seat at four? I've barely seen those cousins.

Jacinto: I'd really appreciate keeping my seat, if there's another arrangement that works.

Jairo: I understand, but I'm traveling tomorrow. This dinner's my chance to reconnect.

Jacinto: Could you check other options first? This spot matters to me too.

The two questions

  1. 1How would you handle the seating request, and what would you say to Jairo and Jacinto?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you had to keep someone's private information while making a decision that affected a group. How did you handle it?
