Scene to read · Professionalism, Empathy

Forty more photos

You agreed to put together the slideshow for your grandfather's 80th birthday party, which is tomorrow evening.

In your aunt Hannelore's living room the night before the party, the slideshow is finished at eight minutes, and guests were told that length. Your aunt Hannelore has just arrived with a box of forty more photos, and your cousin Harish is helping you.

The scene

Hannelore: I found these in the attic tonight. Dad is in every one of them.

Harish: Hannelore, it's locked at eight minutes, and everyone knows that. Tomorrow's already tight.

Hannelore: Eight minutes can't hold his whole life. I've waited years to share these.

Harish: I know. But it's your call, since you're building it. What now?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do, and what would you say to Hannelore and Harish?
  2. 2Tell us about a time you had to balance a commitment you had made against someone's late request. What did you decide?

What raters look for

Professionalism
Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
Empathy
Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
