Scene to read · Resilience, Problem solving
The afternoon seat
You are on your way to a final-round job interview.
At an airline service desk, you learn you have missed the only flight that would get you to tomorrow's nine o'clock interview. Emre, the agent, has one alternative. Yonatan, who was on your delayed first leg and has overheard, steps up beside you.
The scene
Emre: The next seat lands mid-afternoon tomorrow. Sorry, that's after your interview.
Yonatan: I just reserved the last rental car. Come with me and we're there by sunrise.
Emre: Heavy rain's forecast on that highway. I'd phone the employer first.
Yonatan: Nobody's answering an office phone at this hour. I leave in ten minutes. Coming?
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and why?
- 2How do you make a good decision when there is no time to find out what you need to know?
What raters look for
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
