Close again
You have acted with a community theater for three years.
The cast list for the fall play went up tonight, and for the third time you did not get the lead you auditioned for. In the green room, the director, Maud, finds you sitting with your friend Eli.
What's said in the scene
Maud: You were close again. I'd like you to stage-manage. I need someone I can trust.
Eli: Three years of close. Maybe they just don't see you on stage.
Maud: That's not it. Your audition was flat in the second scene.
Eli: So, are you taking the clipboard or walking away?
The two questions
- 1How would you respond to Maud and Eli?
- 2How do you tell the difference between a setback that means 'keep going' and one that means 'try something else'?
What raters look for
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
