Scene to read · Resilience, Collaboration
Cut it or fix it
You are an architecture student working on a three-person group project.
At today's critique, a visiting critic called your part of the group's library design, the entry courtyard, the weak point, in front of the class. Final boards are due at nine tomorrow. At the critique wall, with classmates still packing up nearby, your teammates Bich and Robin, a returning student who uses a wheelchair, turn to you.
The scene
Bich: Cut the courtyard. The scheme reads cleaner without it, and we'd sleep.
Robin: That tells her we fold. Redo it tonight. I'll stay and help.
Bich: A rushed redo could look worse than nothing. People are listening, by the way.
Robin: It's your section. Cut it or fix it?
The two questions
- 1What would you decide, and what would you say to your teammates?
- 2How do you tell the difference between useful criticism and criticism you should set aside?
What raters look for
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
