Someone like me

You are on a three-person panel choosing a student leader for your university's orientation program.

After the interviews, you strongly prefer one candidate: he went to your high school, plays your sport, and you got along immediately. The other two panel members prefer a different candidate, who they say gave stronger answers to every question. You realize you cannot remember many specifics from the second candidate's interview.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do?
  2. 2Are decisions about people better made by a group than by one person? What are the benefits and the risks?

What raters look for

Self-awareness
Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
Ethics
Weighs competing duties honestly, protects people from harm, and stays accountable to rules and values.
