Scene to read · Self-awareness, Professionalism
That was mine to tell
You volunteer at a sidewalk community fridge.
You have been posting photos of people using the fridge on your social media to raise awareness, without asking them, and donations have doubled. Faisal, who comes by most days, has found his picture online. Eleni, the organizer, is restocking beside you. Dozens of other photos are still up.
The scene
Faisal: My daughter's friend saw this. Me, taking free food. Please, delete it.
Eleni: It's legal on a public sidewalk. But why didn't you ask anyone?
Faisal: I am not ashamed of the fridge. But this was mine to tell.
Eleni: Those donations get us through winter, though. Some regulars love the posts.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Faisal and Eleni, and what would you do about the other photos?
- 2How can good intentions keep someone from seeing the effect of what they are doing?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
