Scene to read · Self-awareness, Motivation
Scripted or clear?
You are a docent trainee preparing for your evaluation tour in two weeks.
In the museum's education office, Peregrine and Perrin, both senior docents, have each watched your tours. They are giving you feedback together, and they see your style very differently. Your evaluation is in two weeks.
The scene
Peregrine: Your tours sound too scripted to me. Visitors want conversation, not a recital.
Perrin: I disagree. That clear structure is exactly why visitors keep thanking you.
Peregrine: Clarity matters, but evaluators will notice if you never leave your script.
Perrin: Or they'll notice a tour that's confusing. You've got two weeks. Your decision.
The two questions
- 1What would you do with your tour style before the evaluation, and why?
- 2How do you decide which feedback to act on when people you respect disagree?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
