Thirty years of software
You sell phones at an electronics store.
After a complaint last month that staff rushed an older customer, your manager told everyone to start with the basics. Ms. Whitlock, who looks about seventy, asked you about a new phone, and you spent five minutes explaining what an app is. You know you skip that with younger customers. Your coworker Jay is at the next register.
What's said in the scene
Ms. Whitlock: I wrote software for thirty years. I asked you which processor it has.
Jay: Ma'am, a customer complained last month that we rushed him. So we start simple.
Ms. Whitlock: With everyone? Or with people who look like me?
Jay: Everyone. We both got written up over it. Back me up here.
The two questions
- 1How would you respond to Ms. Whitlock and to Jay?
- 2How can a person find out about assumptions they do not know they are making?
What raters look for
