Written scenario · Self-awareness, Empathy
She was holding a place
You are waiting in a long line at a passport office.
A woman ahead of you, Kiran, waves an older woman in from the seating area to join her. Sure you are watching someone cut the line, you tell her sharply, loud enough for a dozen people to hear, that everyone else has been waiting an hour. The man behind you then says that Kiran had asked the clerk and the people nearby earlier, because her mother cannot stand for long. Kiran has turned back to face the front without a word, her mother looks upset, and the people who heard you are watching.
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and why?
- 2Describe a time you judged someone too quickly and found out you were wrong. What did you do next?
What raters look for
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
- Empathy
- Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
