Drainpipe now or spring
You are the third owner in a three-flat building, and your vote breaks the tie.
Under the shared drainpipe, the yard floods whenever it rains. The owners are meeting there: Liliana, 53, whose wall takes the most water, and Linnea, 66. The owners' reserve fund could cover the repair in spring, but a contractor could start this month if the three of you split the bill.
The scene
Liliana: Linnea, my wall's soaked again. Let's hire this month, split three ways.
Linnea: Liliana, reserves cover spring repairs; I can't afford my third now.
Liliana: By spring, my wall could worsen, making repairs even more expensive.
Linnea: Maybe, but I'd be stretched thin. We need your deciding view.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Liliana and Linnea, and how would you help them decide what to do about the drainpipe?
- 2Tell us about a time you had to help a group reach a decision when people wanted different timing. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
