Scene to read · Collaboration, Empathy
Five names on the cover
You chair a five-person tenant committee that has spent three months documenting repairs the building needs.
The report goes to the property manager in two days, and the group signs off on the cover page tonight. Avital missed most meetings and wrote none of it. In the mailroom, by the bulletin board, she has just told you and Lokesh, who did the most work, why.
The scene
Avital: I didn't want to tell anyone. I've been in treatment since March.
Lokesh: I'm so sorry, I had no idea. But five names says five did the work.
Avital: I understand. But without my name, they'll think I don't care.
Lokesh: And with it, they'll think we shared the load. So what goes on the cover?
The two questions
- 1What would you propose for the cover page, and how would you explain it to Avital and Lokesh?
- 2Describe a time you had to decide how to share credit when contributions were unequal. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Empathy
- Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
