Scene to read · Collaboration, Communication

Two months of doubles

You co-own a food truck with two partners and split the profits three ways.

The lunch rush is over and the three of you are in the truck's kitchen. For two months Nasser has missed most shifts to care for his mother, who is seriously ill, while Huy has worked doubles. The partnership agreement allows a buyout by majority vote.

The scene

Huy: Two months of doubles for a third. Nasser, we need to buy you out.

Nasser: She can't be alone yet. I can't give you a date.

Huy: I'm sorry about your mom. I am. But I can't keep this up.

Nasser: This truck is everything I've built. Please, just give me more time.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Huy and Nasser, and how would you vote?
  2. 2Describe a time a teammate could not carry their share of the work. How did you and the group handle it?
