A gentle nudge

You are a volunteer at an assisted living home.

The bus for today's garden outing leaves in fifteen minutes, and a resident, Mrs. Lowell, has told you she doesn't feel like going. In the activity room, staff members Stefan and Ghassan both hear about it.

The scene

Stefan: She always says no first. Once she's out there, she loves the roses.

Ghassan: Or she's tired and means it. She's allowed to say no to us.

Stefan: She hasn't left the building in three weeks. A gentle nudge isn't forcing her.

Ghassan: You're the one going back to her room. Which is it?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Stefan and Ghassan, and what would you do next?
  2. 2Describe a time two people you worked with gave you conflicting instructions. How did you handle it?

What raters look for

Collaboration
