Fourth time this month

You set up the rotation that you and your sisters, Esther and Fatima, use to care for your father.

Fatima has Tuesday and Thursday evenings, but her warehouse posts its shifts only a day ahead. Tonight she arrives at your father's house an hour late, and Esther has stayed to cover for the fourth time this month. They face each other in the kitchen, by the care calendar on the fridge.

The scene

Esther: Four times this month. My kids are waiting at home too. I'm done covering.

Fatima: They post my shifts a day ahead. Leave early and I'm fired.

Esther: Then your evenings land on the rest of us. Again.

Fatima: You made the calendar. Do I keep my nights or not?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Esther and Fatima, and what would you propose?
  2. 2Describe a time you had to share out a responsibility fairly when people's circumstances were not equal. What did you do?
