Scene to read · Collaboration, Communication
Line by line
You are the office coordinator at a car dealership and must settle on one process for its finance desk.
Amir, who has run the finance desk for twelve years, is just back from leave. Kyung, who filled in for him, read every optional add-on aloud with each buyer, from extended warranty to paint protection, which doubled the time at the desk. With contract printouts spread out, they both look to you.
The scene
Amir: Warranty, paint protection, tire cover, every line read aloud? Nobody needs that, Kyung.
Kyung: Nobody phoned back confused, either. That used to be ten calls a week.
Amir: Because by page six they'd agree to anything. A summary sheet did the job.
Kyung: A summary hides the prices. One process, though. Which one?
The two questions
- 1How would you help Amir and Kyung reach a process they will both follow?
- 2Tell us about a time you helped two people who each had a good way of doing something agree on one approach.
What raters look for
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
