The fastest four

You are captain of an adult running club's relay team.

The regional relay final is next weekend and only four runners can race. June founded the team and has run every race, but her times are now the slowest of the five. In the locker room after practice, Dario raises it in front of her.

What's said in the scene

Dario: We can actually win this year if Sam runs instead of June. Just being honest.

June: I started this team. I haven't missed a race in nine years.

Dario: Nobody doubts that. But a final is about the fastest four.

June: Captain picks the lineup. So who's running?

The two questions

  1. 1How would you handle this as captain?
  2. 2What does a team owe the people who built it?

What raters look for

Collaboration
Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
Equity
Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
