Scene to read · Collaboration, Communication

Wet snow by ten

You captain an adult ski club's relay team.

It is the night before a race. In the waxing room, Teresa, who has prepared the team's skis for fifteen years, is working through a full rack. Uche, who joined last month and raced in college, has twice suggested a different wax for tomorrow's forecast and been waved off.

The scene

Uche: Forecast says wet snow by ten. I'd really go warmer on the wax.

Teresa: Third time you've said so. I've waxed for this hill since before you skied.

Uche: Okay. Forget it. I'll just carry the skis out.

Teresa: Twelve pairs left and it's nine o'clock. Captain, do we debate or do I wax?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do as captain, and what would you say to each of them?
  2. 2Describe a time a newer person's idea was brushed aside in a group you were part of. What did you do?

What raters look for
