Scene to read · Communication, Professionalism
The notice says otherwise
You are a new station ambassador working at the information stand with a senior colleague.
A subway concourse, mid-morning. Nerissa, a senior ambassador, told rider Nefeli the elevator was out all day. Nefeli has heavy luggage, and you have just read a posted notice that seems to say the elevator is running again. Nerissa has not seen it.
The scene
Nefeli: My transit app shows that elevator working. Are you sure it's out today?
Nerissa: I'm sure. It was down this morning, and I've worked here eleven years.
Nefeli: Then I'm hauling these bags up three flights, and the app is simply wrong?
Nerissa: Apps lag behind. Trust me, the stairs are faster than waiting around.
The two questions
- 1What would you do in this moment, and why?
- 2How do you decide when to correct a more experienced colleague in front of the public?
What raters look for
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
