Left out a third year
You helped organize your classic car club's featured display for the regional show.
Somchai, the club president, chose the six featured cars himself, and you noticed that four belong to his close friends. In the club garage, Ren, whose restored convertible has been left out for the third year, puts down his polishing cloth.
The scene
Ren: Third year running. Twelve hundred hours in this car. Why isn't it in the display?
Somchai: The selection's final, Ren. We picked the cars that fit the theme.
Ren: You helped organize it. Was it really about the theme?
Somchai: You were there. Tell him every car got a fair look.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Ren and Somchai?
- 2How do you decide whether to voice a suspicion that you cannot prove?
What raters look for
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
