Written scenario · Communication, Collaboration

The youngest voice

You are the youth representative on the board of a community center.

The board is about to approve an expensive new evening program for teenagers. From talking to teens in your neighbourhood, you are fairly sure few of them will come: the times clash with sports and part-time jobs, and the activities sound like school. Every other board member is at least twenty years older than you, and the chair wants to vote before the meeting ends.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do?
  2. 2Describe a time you spoke up when it would have been easier to stay quiet.

What raters look for

Communication
Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
Collaboration
Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
