Scene to read · Empathy, Resilience
A farewell dinner or a quiet goodbye
You are the niece or nephew of Ilias and Ilona, and they have asked you to help plan something for your cousin.
Your cousin is moving abroad in one month. After dinner on the back porch, your uncle Ilias and your aunt Ilona, both close to you, are talking about how to say goodbye. They have each asked for your help, and the final plan is yours to shape.
The scene
Ilias: A big farewell dinner, everyone there. He should leave knowing we're proud.
Ilona: A party makes it real, Ilias. I just want a quiet goodbye, our family.
Ilias: Quiet is how we'll hide from it. Is that really what you want?
Ilona: I need room to take this in. Which of us are you planning with?
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Ilias and Ilona, and what would you offer to plan?
- 2How do you decide when to mark a big change openly and when to let it pass quietly?
What raters look for
- Empathy
- Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
