Please don't report it

You are a student working on a course project in the library media lab.

Your project partner, Girish, has just posted a third clip of your classmate Kenya, 54, stumbling through her presentation, to the course group chat. Kenya stops at your editing station and sees it on his screen.

What's said in the scene

Girish: Kenya, come on, it's just for fun. I make clips of everybody, me too.

Kenya: I saw the first two. Forty people laughed. I didn't.

Girish: This one's already in the chat, sorry. It's a joke, people forget by Friday.

Kenya: Please don't take this to the instructor. I'd be the one who told.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do, and what would you say to Kenya?
  2. 2Describe a time someone asked you not to step in on their behalf. What did you do, and why?

What raters look for

Empathy
Recognizes what others feel and need, and lets that shape the response without losing judgment.
Communication
Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
