Back home

You run the camera and the chat for a car-restoration livestream filmed in a garage.

Your co-host Kwesi is live on air beside a half-restored car with Ariki, a guest mechanic who moved here from overseas and is new to the channel. Four hundred people are watching, and the chat is busy.

The scene

Kwesi: Look at that weld! Bet you learned to fix engines with duct tape back home, right?

Ariki: Ha. Something like that. We also had welders, you know.

Kwesi: Chat loves you, man. Laughing faces everywhere. We tease everybody on this show.

Ariki: Sure. It's your show. Should I keep going, or are we cutting to break?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do, live or at the break, and why?
  2. 2When is a joke about someone's background harmless, and who gets to decide?

What raters look for

Equity
Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
Communication
Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
