Swap me for your Sunday

You skate for a roller derby league whose members run the door and score table at their own tournament.

After scrimmage, on the bench, your teammate Jimena and the bench coach, Pranav, are going over the helper roster. Yours is the only Sunday slot. Moving to the other day would cost you a paid shift at the store where you work weekends.

The scene

Jimena: I'm on Saturday morning check-in, and I keep the Sabbath. Swap me for your Sunday?

Pranav: Everyone works a shift or we don't skate. Roster locks tonight.

You: Saturday's my paid shift at the store.

Jimena: I know it's a lot. Yours is the only Sunday slot.

Pranav: I need both names in ten minutes.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you say to Jimena and Pranav, and what would you do?
  2. 2Who should bear the cost when a group makes room for one member's needs?

What raters look for
