Scene to read · Motivation, Collaboration
You enjoy this stuff
You meet two friends before every history quiz to go over the reading.
In a student union booth, an hour before today's quiz, you sit with Ximena, a returning student who works evening shifts, and Rania. For the fifth week running, you are the only one who has read the chapter.
The scene
Ximena: Okay, confession. Neither of us opened chapter nine. My shift ran late again. Summary, please?
Rania: You're so good at them! And you actually enjoy this stuff.
Ximena: I did bring the coffee. That counts as contributing, right?
Rania: Seriously, the quiz is at two. We're sunk without you.
The two questions
- 1What would you say to Ximena and Rania?
- 2Describe a time you kept doing more than your share for a group. What kept you going, and what did you change, if anything?
What raters look for
- Motivation
- Shows genuine, sustained drive and a clear reason for choices, including when work is unglamorous.
- Collaboration
- Works toward a shared goal, shares credit and load, and repairs friction inside a team.
