You are a volunteer who has tested the pond water every month for three years.

At the pond shore, you are packing up your sample kit. Maribel, the city liaison, and Marcellus, a fellow monitor aged 65, are beside you. You could keep testing monthly or put your time into a project with visible results.

Maribel: Honestly, we file your monthly readings, but almost nobody reviews them. Sorry.

Marcellus: Maribel, this long record could matter someday. Skipping months breaks it.

Maribel: True, but shoreline cleanup needs people; you'd see results by summer.
