Flat rent or pay per day
You are the part-time coordinator of a small shared workspace co-op, and you must write the rent proposal for next month's members' vote.
In the co-op office, two members are debating the rent structure. Thalia, 48, is in daily and likes the flat monthly rent. Theodora, 61, comes once a week and pays the same. You also rent a desk here, and you have to prepare a neutral recommendation.
The scene
Thalia: Flat rent keeps things simple, and it's why people stay and chat here.
Theodora: Simple for you. I pay the same as you for one day a week.
Thalia: Charge by the day and regulars will leave. Then the whole place feels different.
Theodora: Then let our coordinator weigh it. Which one goes in the proposal?
The two questions
- 1What would you do to prepare the proposal, and why?
- 2When a group's members benefit differently from a shared rule, how should someone preparing a recommendation handle it?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Equity
- Notices unequal access or treatment and acts fairly, especially for people with less power.
