Doors in fifteen

You are a volunteer stagehand at an amateur theater on the first night of its play.

A ten-foot painted backdrop is propped against the side wall next to the aisle the audience will use; it rocked a little when you touched it. Doors open in fifteen minutes. You have just pointed it out to the club president, Ziad, who directs and casts every show. Annika, another volunteer, is on stage with you both.

The scene

Ziad: It's leaned there all week. Bracing it means refocusing lights. That's half an hour.

Annika: It did rock when I brushed it. Barely, though.

Ziad: I'll stand an usher beside it. We're not holding a full house for a maybe.

Annika: An usher's something, I guess. I'm doing chairs. You coming?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do in the next fifteen minutes, and why?
  2. 2Describe a time you raised a concern and the person in charge dismissed it. What did you do next?
