Scene to read · Professionalism, Communication
Page two
You are in your first week working at a pawn shop.
At the counter beside the jewelry case, Zahra is pawning her late father's watch. Freya, the senior clerk, is in charge of the sale. The shop was fined last year after a clerk summarized the loan terms wrongly, and you are still learning them yourself.
The scene
Zahra: It was my father's watch. When's the loan due? What if I'm late?
Freya: It's all on page two. We don't paraphrase the contract. Sign at the bottom.
Zahra: I've read page two twice. I don't understand it.
Freya: I'm not getting us fined again.
Zahra: You, then. Can you tell me, please?
The two questions
- 1What would you do, and what would you say to Zahra and to Freya?
- 2Describe a time you saw a more senior person handle something in a way you were unsure about. What did you do?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Communication
