Scene to read · Professionalism, Resilience
One of you, Saturday
You work at a small bookkeeping firm.
This Saturday you are due to drive your father, 81, to a family reunion three hours away, a promise made in the spring; nobody else can take him. It is quarter-end, and in the office on Thursday afternoon your manager, Shmuel, tells you and your coworker Kalaya that nine clients' paychecks depend on filings due Saturday.
The scene
Shmuel: Nine payrolls file Saturday. I need one of you in here with me.
Kalaya: I covered the last two weekend crunches, remember.
Shmuel: That's fair, Kalaya. So it comes down to you. Can you do Saturday?
Kalaya: I know it's your dad's reunion. But I can't do a third.
The two questions
- 1What would you do about Saturday, and what would you say to Shmuel and Kalaya?
- 2Tell us about a time two commitments you had made collided. How did you handle it?
What raters look for
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
- Resilience
- Recovers from setbacks, manages stress constructively, and learns from failure.
