Written scenario · Professionalism, Resilience

Half a lesson plan

You volunteer at a neighborhood center.

Two months ago you promised to lead Saturday's free bike-repair class, and twenty people have signed up. After a busy month you have a lesson plan for only half the session and have not practiced the demonstrations. On Friday evening Fang, a fellow volunteer who has taught this class many times, offers to take it over. The attendees would probably get a better session. But the coordinator picked you because the center needs more people who can lead, Fang already gives more hours than anyone, and this was meant to be your first time teaching.

The two questions

  1. 1What would you do, and what would you say to Fang?
  2. 2Describe a time you took on something you were not fully ready for. What happened, and what did you learn?

What raters look for

Professionalism
Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
Resilience
