Cash only

You help run a bread stall at a Saturday farmers market.

The card reader stopped working at the busiest hour, and most customers carry no cash. The nearest cash machine is a ten-minute walk away. The stall's owner, Odile, is facing a regular customer, Mr. Amadi, at the front of a long line.

What's said in the scene

Odile: Cash only until it's fixed. I can't give bread away on promises.

Mr. Amadi: I've bought here every week for two years. I'll pay you next Saturday.

Odile: And the twenty people behind you? Do I trust all of them?

Mr. Amadi: You'll be throwing out bread by noon. Surely there's a better way?

The two questions

  1. 1What would you suggest to Odile?
  2. 2How do you make a good decision quickly when you cannot have all the facts?
