Groceries in the lobby
You are a neighbor on the second floor, asked by the building manager to help Lavinia and Leander agree on a two-week lobby arrangement.
The elevator is out for two weeks, and you are in the lobby by the mailboxes with two residents. Lavinia's mother lives on the fifth floor and relies on grocery deliveries left downstairs. Leander lives on the first floor and worries about the entrance staying safe. The manager has said you may propose the arrangement.
The scene
Lavinia: Mom can't carry groceries up five flights. Deliveries wait until I arrive.
Leander: I understand, but boxes and carts risk everyone tripping, especially at night.
Lavinia: It's two weeks, Leander. Nobody's asking for a permanent entrance shelf.
Leander: Two weeks is plenty long to fall. What would you propose, neighbor?
The two questions
- 1What arrangement would you propose to Lavinia and Leander, and how would you present it?
- 2Tell us about a time you helped two people with competing needs reach a workable compromise.
What raters look for
- Problem solving
