Already scanned
You bought four concert tickets from an online reseller for yourself and three friends, who each paid you back.
At the arena box office, the tickets will not scan, and the show starts in twenty minutes. Your close friend Graciela is beside you; the other two are waiting by the doors, one of them celebrating a birthday. Devon, the box office clerk, has checked the tickets twice.
The scene
Devon: These barcodes were already used. I've got four seats left, ninety each.
Graciela: We each paid sixty for these already. I can't pay twice tonight.
Devon: The reseller might refund you. Might. I can hold these two minutes.
Graciela: It's a birthday night, and you picked the site. So what are we doing?
The two questions
- 1What would you do in the next two minutes, and why?
- 2When a mistake you made costs other people money, how do you decide what you owe them?
What raters look for
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
