Scene to read · Resilience, Ethics

Not ready by Friday

You are a younger assistant at a tailor shop, learning the retiring seamstress's methods during her final week.

In the shop's back room, Arnav, the owner, aged 48, and Armin, the seamstress, aged 35, discuss your handover at the sewing table. Armin retires from tailoring Friday; despite two demonstrations, you haven't reproduced a difficult fitting on a practice garment. An expensive jacket needs that technique Monday, before an experienced replacement arrives. Armin wants to help, but also has promised alterations to finish before leaving.

The scene

Arnav: The replacement can't start Monday. Can you handle that customer's jacket independently?

Armin: We've tried twice, and repeating everything is swallowing my last week here.

Arnav: Delaying means they'll miss their ceremony. What can we realistically promise them?

Armin: I'll coach one more practice, but I can't keep rescuing every fitting.

The two questions

  1. 1How would you respond about your readiness, and how would you use the remaining training time?
  2. 2How do you decide when to persist after a setback and when to change course because others would bear the risk?

What raters look for
